Where can legionella bacteria grow?
Bacteria can live in natural water sources, such as lakes, rivers and streams. However, they can also be found in hot and cold water systems.
What conditions promote the growth of legionella bacteria?
Temperatures between 20-45˚C, places where there is a ready source of nutrients such as sludge, scale or rust along with poor water management.
When should I have a legionella risk assessment carried out?
It is important to carry out a LRA whenever there is change. This can include; a change in use of the building, a change in the water system, an update in relevant legislation or when there has been a reported case of legionnaire’s disease.
What should a LRA report focus on?
A risk assessment report should focus on the risk level to people within the building, describing both hot and cold water systems, recording water outlet temperatures, assessing the hot and cold water systems, and identifying areas of risk.
