LEV testing
Regulation 7 of the COSHH Regulations 2002 (as amended) requires that the exposure of employees to substances hazardous to health be prevented or adequately controlled. This regulation is supported by the COSHH Approved Code of Practice which makes specific mention of the use of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) in this instance.
Regulation 9 of the COSHH Regulations 2002 requires that any control measure taken to comply with regulation 7 must be maintained in an efficient state and working order, and specifies that LEV systems should be therefore examined and tested at least once every 14 months. In addition to this the Code of Practice recommends weekly visual checks to identify obvious defects or misuse of LEV. Furthermore, regulation 9 specifies that records shall be kept of all test results, examinations, and repairs carried out, for a minimum of 5 years.
