Air Quality - Air Monitoring - Air Sampling - UK - Apple Environmental
These days more attention is generally paid to outside air, but with more and more people spending more and more time indoors there is much concern over improving and maintaining a good and healthy indoor atmosphere.
The main sources of indoor air pollution come from the following:
use of chemical applications
-
combustion (including smoking)
-
external air entering the building
Unless the building is a place of work there is little or no direct legislation governing this area. In some circumstances, if the air quality is regularly bad and could be regarded as a nuisance, then there may be mechanisms to address the problem through contacting an environmental health officer at your local authority (if the source is traffic, light industry or domestic bonfires) or through the Environment Agency (if the source is from heavy industry or from a nearby waste management activity).
In the workplace however the situation is different as the Health and Safety Executive not only have strict guidelines and standards for air quality in the workplace environment (see Occupational Exposure), but also endorse strict management and operational procedures, to ensure a healthy working environment. If the air quality is suffering due to external air entering the building, and this can not be prevented physically, then once again this may be addressed through contacting the local authority or Environment Agency as appropriate.
Apple Environmental specialises in air monitoring by air sampling and would be more than happy to undertake an assessment for you. Whether we can offer a full air monitoring and evaluation survey, or just provide free support and advice on air sampling.
